MAKE A MASK! DIY COTTON FACE MASK
Why You Should Make + Wear Your Own Cloth Face Mask - A DIY TEMPLATE
With the highly contagious Covid-19 disease spreading throughout the world, many people are looking for ways to make their own masks to help protect against this dangerous disease. The sudden increase in demand for “Personal Protective Equipment” has led to a critical shortage of N95 + Surgical masks available for public use. By making your own masks, you help decrease demand for the limited supplies which are desperately needed by hospitals + a variety front line workers. (A HUGE thank you to ALL frontline + healthcare workers!)
Luckily one of our very own Ace Campers has developed an easy to make cotton face mask DIY. Thanks to Molly Dorfman, MD, Pediatric Intensivist working and sewing in California. Below you will find step-by-step instructions, along with a pattern template to help you sew masks for yourself and others.
In an ideal world, you would make yourself at least 3 masks so you can rotate between clean masks while others may be in the laundry. Remember, always remove the mask carefully. Avoid touching the fabric and do not reach under the mask with dirty hands. Wash your hands and face immediately after removing your mask. Used masks should go straight into the laundry and be washed with soap and hot water.
